Time (synchronization) is just a marketing term for clock (synchronization).

Are there actually any good war stories about intentional misdrection of "internet" "NTP time" ?
I guess there must be, but i never stumbled across any.  I am only aware of GPS time misdirection,
but that is of course so old, that it got even used in James Bond decades ago.

To answer your question: A trusted source of time (clock) is in every good
heist movie a bunch of conspirators in a room simultaneously setting their
clocks to noon. I thought the keys for DNS  root zone security where
managed in the same way.

Bootstrapping into any cryptographic system of trust without that overhead
and relying on certificates is just a sham given how certificates illogically where
designed to have time based trust conditions. I am just wiggling through that in rfc8994
section 6.2.3.1 because an IETF rfc is (alas) not the right place for a rant against
certificates.

Oh well. Still doesn't take away anything from Dave and his co-conspirators
achievements, but only those who didn't understand the difference between
time and clock and partially voided their achievements by relying on the
marketing term (such as PKI systems).
