Just wondering, because something appropriate might require a bit more upfront prep. I for once would love to see something that involves a video event into which we would try to bring in as many of the key participants of history as would fit (everybody should know how to participate in a video session now ...) - and have some good agenda put up to reflect on the history. Heck, for all i care this could even go as far as a whole day workshop (could even sell tickets for video participation to it i am sure). I ran into an issue where a system was configured with 3 name servers statically which became invalid after a network change, however, correct name servers were pushed to the system via DHCP as well for a total of 6 nameserver entries in /etc/resolv.conf and that got me digging. I was just dreading that 3 was a value chosen due to a technical limitation of something in the 80s. :) Sevan From jeanjour at comcast.net Sat Mar 6 06:59:58 2021 From: jeanjour at comcast.net (John Day) Date: Sat, 6 Mar 2021 09:59:58 -0500 Subject: [ih] Why is MAXNS set to 3 In-Reply-To: References: <43a15446-9a4d-cf51-f51a-2cd51c8b6b39@geeklan.co.uk> <177e99c17a8.2818.808948fe1d1f5e4496f3ab3e81db1bfd@dunlap.org> Message-ID: I wouldn?t put too much credence in: "I would say setting it to 3 has stood the test of time.? It wasn?t that long ago, that a bug in TCP showed up that had been there since the earliest implementations in the 70s. Also, we learned a few weeks ago, that the TCP checksum was a placeholder until someone could determine what it should be. ?Standing the test of time? can?t be relied on. ;-) Take care, John > On Mar 5, 2021, at 10:49, Sevan Janiyan via Internet-history wrote: > >> I would say setting it to 3 has stood the test of time.
