[Chapter-delegates] Heterotopia | Art & Tech: New Edition from ISOC India Mumbai Chapter

[Vatsla Srivastava]

Dear all,

What happens when technology begins not only to distribute art, but to shape how it is created, discovered, interpreted and experienced?

That question sits at the heart of the new edition of Heterotopia, an annual publication of the Internet Society India Mumbai Chapter, an ICANN At-Large Structure (ALS), centred on the theme Art & Technology.

→ Read Heterotopia: Art & Tech [1]

Across 13 essays, reflections and reports, contributors explore the possibilities that technology is opening up for artists and audiences -- and the harder questions it raises about authorship, representation, privacy and what remains distinctly human in the creative process.

The edition includes:

* A report from our Art by the Internet session with Internet Hall of Fame inductee DaeYoung (D.Y.) Kim, exploring the Internet as a stage for real-time artistic collaboration across borders

* Essays on whether AI can truly see the world's cultures, the psychology of algorithmic beauty, AI image generation and data privacy, and how algorithms shape the way we discover the world

* Reflections on authenticity from Renaissance light to AI imagery, on digital and traditional art, and on Mumbai as a city where art is lived

The edition brings together the work of 33 contributors, including writers, editors, designers and volunteers, led by Editor-in-Chief Nandita Koshal, with an editorial by former Chapter President Nupur Vijh.

We hope it sparks conversations well beyond its pages, and we would be grateful if you shared it with your networks.

The next chapter of Heterotopia

This edition also marks the beginning of Heterotopia's next phase. As technologies, communities and conversations around the Internet evolve, we want the publication to evolve with them.

We welcome your ideas on what Heterotopia could become - and would also be glad to hear from those interested in contributing to future editions.

Please write to Nandita Koshal, Editor-in-Chief, at koshalnandita at gmail.com, or to me at president at isocindiamumbai.org.

Warm regards,
