Dear ISOC Chapter leaders and members,
I am pleased to present my candidacy for the upcoming ISOC Chapter Advisory
Committee elections and invite you to support me with your vote.
I believe that the strength of the Internet Society lies in its global
community, and that its Chapters are among its most valuable assets.
Chapters connect the Internet Society's global mission with local
realities, engage communities, develop talent, build partnerships, and turn
shared principles into concrete action. Their experience, knowledge, and
commitment should be more visible and play a stronger role in shaping the
global Internet Society's priorities and future.
*My goal is simple: to help make ISOC Chapters more visible, better
connected, and more influential within the global organization.*
About me and my experience: you can find details in my linkedin profile,
<https://www.linkedin.com/in/olgacavalli/> and if you need further details
do not hesitate to send me an email to olga at gobernanzainternet.
What I would work to achieve
If elected, I would focus on five practical priorities.
*1. Make Chapter achievements visible across the global Internet Society*
Chapters are doing valuable work in their communities, but their
achievements and expertise do not always receive the international
visibility they deserve.
I would advocate for stronger mechanisms to showcase Chapter initiatives,
research, events, success stories, and measurable impact through global
communication channels and community platforms. I would also encourage
opportunities for Chapters to present their work to peers, global
leadership, and international stakeholders.
The objective is to help Chapters gain recognition, attract partners,
inspire other communities, and demonstrate the value of the global network.
*2. Give Chapters a stronger voice in global priorities and discussions*
Chapters should be active contributors to the Internet Society's strategic
conversations, not only recipients of information or implementers of
programs.
A stronger feedback process should help ensure that Chapter knowledge
informs discussions and that Chapters receive clear responses about how
their input is considered.
*3. Connect Chapters to multiply our collective impact*
Many Chapters face similar challenges, while others have developed valuable
approaches that could benefit the wider community.
I would promote cross-regional collaboration, peer-to-peer exchanges,
mentoring, joint webinars, and collaborative projects addressing issues
such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, digital inclusion, Internet
access, trust and safety, and Internet governance.
I would also encourage stronger connections between Chapters, Special
Interest Groups, and relevant global initiatives, helping members find
collaborators and opportunities beyond their own countries.
*4. Expand capacity building and equitable participation*
The ability to contribute to global discussions should not depend on a
Chapter's size, financial resources, geographic location, or access to
international networks.
I would advocate for practical training, leadership development, mentoring,
knowledge-sharing, and more accessible opportunities for Chapter members to
participate in international events and policy discussions.
Particular attention should be given to smaller and less-resourced
Chapters, young professionals, and communities whose perspectives are often
underrepresented.
*5. Establish a regular mechanism to listen, act, and report back*
If elected, I would seek to establish a regular Chapter engagement and
feedback mechanism that would:
-
*Listen:* organize periodic exchanges with Chapters across regions to
identify their priorities, concerns, needs, and proposals.
-
*Connect:* identify common interests and facilitate peer exchanges,
mentoring, and opportunities for joint initiatives.
-
*Amplify:* collect and share Chapter achievements, experiences, and
recommendations with the wider Internet Society community.
-
*Follow up:* communicate the main issues raised, the actions proposed,
and the progress made, helping Chapters understand how their contributions
are being addressed.
I would also encourage the use of simple, transparent indicators to assess
progress, such as Chapter contributions featured globally, cross-Chapter
collaborations initiated, participation in consultations, and follow-up on
issues raised.
*My commitment is to help build an Internet Society in which every Chapter
has greater opportunities to be heard, contribute, collaborate, and make an
impact.*
I would be honored to earn your support and your vote in the upcoming
Chapter Advisory Committee elections.
Thank you for your commitment to our shared mission and for considering my
candidacy.
*Olga Cavalli*
