*My Vision for the 2027 Chapter Advisory Council (ChAC) Steering Committee*
Dear Chapter Advisory Council (ChAC) Members and the Entire Internet
Society Chapter Community,
Warm greetings to you all.
First and foremost, I extend my sincere gratitude to each of you for your
continued trust, confidence, and support in considering me once again as
your preferred candidate for the *2027 Chapter Advisory Council Steering
Committee elections*. Your confidence in me is both an honour and a
responsibility that I do not take lightly.
As we look toward the future, I believe this is an important moment to
reflect on what makes the Internet Society strong: *our Chapters, our
people, our collective voice, and our shared commitment to an open, secure,
inclusive, and trustworthy Internet for everyone.*
The question before us is not simply who should serve on the Steering
Committee, but who is ready to help turn our collective aspirations into
practical, sustainable, and measurable progress for Chapters across the
world.
Who Is Alphonce, and What Does He Bring to the Table?
I am *Eng. Alphonce Odhiambo*, the current President of the Internet
Society Kenya Chapter, serving my second term, having previously served as
the Chapter's Vice-President.
My journey in the Internet Society has been driven by a simple
conviction: *strong
Chapters are the foundation of a stronger Internet Society, and empowered
communities are essential to building an Internet that serves everyone.*
Through my leadership and engagement, I have contributed to advancing
community networks, strengthening local Internet initiatives, supporting
policy development through the Internet Society Kenya Chapter, and building
multi-stakeholder collaborations to expand meaningful Internet access in
underserved and rural communities.
My commitment to community empowerment and Internet development has also
been recognised beyond the Chapter. In 2023, I received the *Internet
Champion of the Year Award* from the Internet Society. In 2024, I received
the *Africa Community Development Award* from the Africa ICT Alliance
(AfICTA). These recognitions reinforce my belief that meaningful impact
comes from collaboration, inclusion, and solutions shaped by the
communities we serve.
I bring to the ChAC Steering Committee practical chapter leadership
experience, a community-centred perspective, a commitment to collaborative
governance, and a strong belief in building systems that enable Chapters
not merely to survive, but to thrive.
My Vision: From Individual Chapters to a Stronger Global Community
I envision an Internet Society where every Chapter—regardless of its size,
location, resources, or stage of development—has the opportunity, support,
and capacity to make a meaningful contribution.
An Internet Society where Chapters are not isolated in their efforts, but
connected through purposeful collaboration, shared knowledge, collective
advocacy, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
An Internet Society where Chapter leaders are supported, members are
meaningfully engaged, young people are empowered to lead, and local
priorities inform the support and resources Chapters receive.
*My commitment is to help transform this vision into action through five
priorities:*
*1. Stronger Chapters Through Practical Support*
Advocate for accessible, responsive, and practical support systems that
reflect the diverse realities of our Chapters. Chapter support should be
driven by actual needs, clear priorities, and solutions that help Chapters
strengthen their operations and deliver meaningful results.
*2. Sustainable Inter-Chapter Collaboration*
Promote structured mechanisms for Chapters to collaborate, exchange
knowledge, share resources, develop joint initiatives, and learn from one
another. A successful Chapter should be an opportunity for collective
learning, not an isolated success story.
*3. Strong Governance and Leadership Continuity*
Champion effective governance, leadership development, institutional
memory, and succession planning. We must strengthen the systems that enable
Chapters to remain active and effective beyond individual leadership terms,
while reducing recurring challenges associated with Chapter rejuvenation.
*4. Resource Mobilisation and Strategic Partnerships*
Support efforts to expand access to partnerships, funding opportunities,
shared expertise, and sustainable operating models. Chapters need more than
encouragement; they need practical pathways to mobilise resources, build
local partnerships, and sustain their activities and impact.
*5. Meaningful Member Engagement and Youth Leadership*
Advance a Chapter community where members feel valued, heard, and empowered
to contribute. By strengthening member participation, creating
opportunities for young leaders, and supporting locally driven innovation,
we can build a more vibrant, inclusive, and resilient global Chapter
network.
What Success Should Look Like
Our efforts must be guided by clear objectives and measurable progress.
I will advocate for a Chapter community where:
-
Chapters have stronger support structures that respond to their real
needs and priorities.
-
Inter-Chapter collaboration becomes a practical, ongoing mechanism
rather than an occasional engagement.
-
Chapter leaders have greater access to shared knowledge,
capacity-building opportunities, and governance support.
-
Members and young people have meaningful opportunities to participate,
contribute, and lead.
-
Chapters are better positioned to mobilise resources, establish
strategic partnerships, and sustain their work.
-
Successful practices, lessons, and innovations are shared across the
network, strengthening our collective impact.
Ultimately, *our goal must be a stronger, more connected, more sustainable,
and more impactful Chapter network—one that amplifies community voices and
advances an open, secure, inclusive, and trustworthy Internet.*
A Commitment to Serve, Listen, and Deliver
Dear colleagues,
I understand the responsibility that comes with serving on the ChAC
Steering Committee. I recognise that effective leadership is not about
holding a position; it is about listening to Chapters, building consensus,
representing diverse perspectives, and working collectively to deliver
results.
If entrusted with this responsibility, I will bring dedication, integrity,
collaboration, and a practical, solutions-oriented approach to the role. I
will champion the interests of Chapters, encourage constructive engagement,
and work towards support mechanisms that reflect our shared aspirations and
diverse realities.
I believe that *Chapters are the very fabric that keeps the Internet
Society connected to its members, communities, and mission.* When Chapters
are strong, the Internet Society is stronger. When Chapters collaborate,
our collective voice becomes louder. And when Chapters are empowered to
lead locally, our global mission becomes more meaningful.
The future we want cannot be built by one Chapter, one leader, or one
region alone. It requires all of us—working together, learning from one
another, and turning shared purpose into collective action.
Your Support, Our Shared Future
As we approach the 2027 ChAC Steering Committee elections, I humbly ask for
your vote, your confidence, and your continued partnership.
*Vote for Eng. Alphonce Odhiambo.*

Vote for meaningful collaboration.
Vote for sustainable growth and accountable leadership.
Vote for a Chapter community where every voice matters and every Chapter
has the opportunity to thrive.
*Together, let us move beyond conversations to collaboration, beyond
challenges to practical solutions, and beyond individual efforts to
collective impact.*
Let us build a stronger Chapter network and an even greater Internet
Society—together.
Thank you for your trust, your leadership, and your continued commitment to
our shared mission.
*Alphonce Odhiambo*
