Dear Chapter Leaders,
The code of conduct revision project requires help from global-leaders to
revise the existing documents and gather information. For this
purpose Internet Society staff need our help finding suitable candidates
for a small focus group. Based on the discussion I had with the staff
following is a call for volunteers.
Therefore, please check out the following description and reply if you are
interested.
Thanks,
Thilina Pathirana
ChAC-SC liaison for the Code of Conduct Revision Project
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Internet Society community brings together people from diverse regions,
cultures, and lived experiences to advance our shared vision of an Internet
for everyone. To support safe, respectful participation across in-person,
hybrid, and virtual spaces, Internet Society staff has launched a project
to r*eview and update the Internet Society / Internet Society Foundation
Code of Conduct*, including clearer reporting, response, and enforcement
guidance.
As part of *Phase 1 (listening & input)*, we are inviting chapter leaders
to join a small focus group facilitated by consultant *Emma Irwin* to share
perspectives and practical suggestions that will help shape the first
draft. (The Internet Society staff has brought on the consultant Emma
Irwin, who has deep experience in this space, to support the process.)
We’re looking for: One volunteer per region (first come, first served)
To ensure global representation, we will select *one eligible volunteer
from each region* (up to 6 total)
If your region’s spot is already taken, you can still sign up to be on the
waitlist in case a selected volunteer becomes unavailable.
What’s the commitment?
One focus group session (60–90 minutes) within the next ~2 weeks (scheduled
to best fit time zones)
Optional: a brief follow-up if clarification is needed
Discussion topics may include:
* Awareness/experience with the current Code of Conduct
* Handling or reporting conduct issues (what worked / what didn’t)
* Feelings of safety, support, and empowerment in chapter/community roles
* What you’d like to see in an updated framework (process, clarity,
training, accountability)
How to volunteer (reply with the following)
Please reply with:
* Name + Chapter
* Region (Africa / Asia-Pacific / Europe / LAC / North America / Middle
East)
The first eligible volunteer per region will be confirmed by reply. Others
will be placed on the waitlist.
