Dear Global Chapter Leaders,
With so many threats to encryption around the world, 2025 has been quite a year of action. We’ve fully stopped threats to encryption in several countries and held back even more. Thank you all for the work you do!
With the fifth annual Global Encryption Day (GED) coming up quickly on 21 October, we have the opportunity to tell the world why encryption matters and to shine a light at the places where it is under threat.
Next week, the Internet Society will be providing more information about this year’s Global Encryption Day including messaging and some of the different activities we have planned. As you’ll see on the homepage, we are taking a more humorous approach this year, using the analogy that without encryption, using the Internet would be like sharing your secrets with a parrot (more to come on that).

However, my favorite part about Global Encryption Day each year is seeing the ways this community uses GED to bring the message about strong encryption to different communities around the world. As in previous years, we are highlighting community Global Encryption Day events on the Global Encryption Coalition website.

If you are planning an event for Global Encryption Day, let us know! Fill out this form and we will add your event to the event list! Form: https://www.globalencryption.org/events/ged/ged-2025/event-registration/
Last, but not least, the GEC Steering Committee is hosting the 3rd Global Encryption Day Summit “A Shield in Uncertain Times: The Role of Encryption”. It will take place on October 21st online, and we will be sending the registration link soon.
We will be reaching out early next week with more details on Global Encryption Day plans. But in the meantime, if you have events – let us and the world know!
