Dear Chapter Delegates,
Following on our activities related to the WSIS+20 review, I’d like to inform you that the WSIS+20 Elements Paper has just been released<https://publicadministration.desa.un.org/sites/default/files/2021-04/2025/WSIS%2B20_ElementsPaper_20June.pdf>. The document contains the main areas the co-facilitators will address in the Zero Draft (expected in August). As such, you’ll notice it doesn’t go into detail on many topics.
* On the IGF’s mandate, for instance, the co-facilitators mentioned their intention to address the topic in the Zero Draft, but they didn’t hint about any particular choice.
* The definition of Internet Governance started from a mixed reference to the Tunis Agenda text, without reflecting the text adopted in the GDC.
* The term “enhanced cooperation” is mentioned again, as we saw during the deliberations leading to the Global Digital Compact.
For the people following the IGF 2025 meeting, the Internet Society will organize a networking session on Monday, 23, at 16:00 CEST (14:00 UTC)<https://igf2025.sched.com/event/26G2M/networking-session-#127-the-internet-society-community-discusses-wsis+20-and-beyond?linkback=grid> to discuss the Elements Paper. The session will allow for virtual participation, and we look forward to hearing from you either during the session, via this mailing list, or through our WSIS+20 Community Working Group<https://community.internetsociety.org/s/join-process?groupId=a0OUO000006jWQ5>. If you’d prefer to submit a shorter input, feel free to fill in this online form<https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/ef6294b93dc0474a8971f87a880c7e41>.
If your chapter is planning to engage with government officials about this process, feel free to reach out. We can work together to develop talking points and other documents as needed.
Best,
