[Chapter-delegates] Meeting our friends in Japan

Happy Wednesday!

We all know that feeling of traveling to unfamiliar places — often for work — and feeling disorientated as we flit from one meeting to the next.

I found myself in Tokyo last week for the APT Ministerial Meeting, and while this wasn't my first time in Japan, I found comfort in knowing that I will be meeting warm and welcoming faces, and sharing stories over a nice meal

Like all our chapter leaders, our friends from the Japan Chapter hold leadership roles in their fields of expertise, and have busy and full lives, and it's very touching that they carve out time to catch up during the few days I'm in town, and are always very gracious to choose a place close to where I'm staying, and to even make the restaurant booking!

That night, we laughed a lot, exchanged presents (customary in many Asian cultures) and they taught me new Japanese phrases, such as how to thank the host or restaurant after a meal (say, Gochisousama-deshita!)

Here's to making new memories with old friends — I hope you keep the ISOC community in mind for your next destination, and I hope to see you next in mine.
