Subject: [Chapter-delegates] A story from Libya ISOC
We are excited to announce the successful completion of the first edition of
the Libya School on Internet Governance, marking a significant milestone in
empowering a new generation of Internet defenders in Libya. The school began
with four weeks of online training in Arabic, organized by the Internet
Society (ISOC) and utilizing ISOCs learning platforms, followed by an
immersive three-day in-person session in Tripoli. Co-organized by ISOC Libya
and the Annir Initiative, the program brought together 30 participants from
diverse sectors from a competitive pool of 230 applicants, including the
technical community, government, civil society, private sector, and
academia. With 70% of participants coming from outside the capital city and
a 50% gender balance, the school fostered inclusivity and representation.
Over the course of the training, participants delved into critical topics
such as the history of the Internet, data sovereignty, cybersecurity,
privacy laws, and digital rights activism, equipping them with the tools to
address the unique challenges of our digital era.
This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our
partners, including the Internet Society, the Annir Initiative, and our
local and international experts. Their dedication has been instrumental in
empowering Libyas Internet community and inspiring the next generation of
Internet defenders. As our first cohort graduates, they stand ready to
advocate for stronger, more inclusive Internet policies in Libya and beyond,
engaging in regional and global forums to ensure Libyas voice is heard on
the international stage. This is just the beginningtogether, we are
building a brighter, safer digital future for Libya.
