[Chapter-delegates] Exciting 2025 chapter funding updates!

Hi Joly and Nazar,

Yes, that's correct, and we realize that this may delay projects slightly for some. While many foundations only offer a single annual window for application submissions, we have maintained a rolling process to allow for flexibility with the chapters. We do however need to close a program year before beginning the next.

Due to the timing on our budgets and how we take feedback into account to make improvements for the following year, January 7 is the soonest we can open applications for 2025 projects. We are also still working through processing the final Beyond the Net applications that came in by October 10 for 2024's program year.

We are currently working to update our website with more information about the funding processes for 2025. We will also hold some open office hours in January to answer questions you might have.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to learn and evolve our programs to support the work you do.

In partnership,

Jenn Beard

Dear Jenn,

I agree with Joly's assertion. What is the reasoning behind the 8-week (two-month) period?

Hi Jenn,

  * Opens for applications on 7 January 2025

If the 8 weeks in advance rule is still in effect, this means no funding for Chapter projects prior to March 2025. That is a sizable chunk of the year!

If a Chapter has a project for earlier than that, that requires funding, how should they proceed?

Thanks

Joly

Dear Colleagues,

We’re getting prepared to launch our 2025 chapter funding programs early next year and want to start with a big thank you to all of you who have continued to give us feedback and suggestions for further improvement of the funding programs for chapters.

We have made a few changes to:

  *   simplify the application processes

  * adjust Chapter Admin Funding to make up for inflation and increased costs of living

  * add more flexibility regarding the amounts of Beyond the Net grants

Here is what you can expect for next year:

Beyond the Net Funding for chapter projects and activities:

  * Opens for applications on 7 January 2025

  * The previous small and large grants will be merged into one single “Beyond the Net”

  * Chapters can manage up to two (2) simultaneous Beyond the Net grants, up to a max of $55,000 USD per chapter at any given time in whatever combination of grants is best for the chapter. For example, a chapter could have both a $50,000 USD grant and a $5,000 USD grant.

  * As soon as one grant is completed, the chapter is free to apply for a new grant (as long as the chapter is not exceeding the max. of two (2) simultaneous grants and $55,000 USD overall)

  * Beyond the Net grants will support the four main focus areas of the Internet Society’s 2030 Strategy<https://www.internetsociety.org/resources/doc/2024/2030-strategy/> PLUS topics that help with understanding Internet usage and local needs.

2025 Chapter Admin Funding (CAF) to support the day-to-day chapter operations:

  * Open for applications between 4 February and 30 April 2025

  * An increase of all CAF amounts - exact amounts will be communicated ahead of the launch of the program

  * The opportunity to apply, as part of the CAF application, for $5,000 USD add-on funding that can be used for mission-related activities that are part of the chapter's 2025 Action Plan.

We hope these updates will make things easier for you and encourage more chapters to apply for funding. We look forward to supporting all the important work that you do in support of our mission. Please stay tuned to the ISOC Foundation website<https://www.isocfoundation.org/> for more detailed information.

Wishing you a great rest of 2024,
