Hi

He came to NY and is visiting other chapters. He is smart, hardworking, and
listens. I was really impressed when he calmly addressed one of our
angriest members and engaged with him despite some very harsh comments. He
knows how to work in organizations.

We all know how badly things have been going. Everyone gave him an earful.
His response was that he couldn't fix the past but he intended to do much
better going forward.

Fundraising is a big part of his job. *He is looking for projects with
impact*- results, not just proposals that sound good on paper.

Many of our best members give up because we can't get
information, funding, or basic respect.

It's hard to turn around the Titanic, but ISOC is worth fighting for. Our
$60M/year from .org is more money than any other organization ultimately
dedicated to a better Internet.

He's already doing some positive things. Chapters will now be eligible for
up to %50,000/year. It takes at least 6 weeks even for the smallest grants
that are supposed to be almost automatic. Some of the most qualified are
turned down. By policy, reasons are never provided. He promised those and
similar would be corrected. He even said chapters will have at least some
say in how their funding is spent.
------------
How can we help him do a good job? First, please treat him with courtesy
and respect, even when you disagree. Second, look for possible solutions
rather than demanding the impossible. Provide concrete, sensible ways to
make things better.

An enormous amount of what we do today has minimal impact. Let's help him
change that.
