Thank you Christian for sharing this here.

Ted’s message was shared with all individual members of the Internet Society and there will definitely be opportunities for the chapters to discuss the strategy. One of these opportunities is the upcoming Full Chapters Advisory Council call on 21 May.

Best,

Christine

Ted kindly sent a link to the two page pdf of ISOC's 2030 global Strategic Plan.

I thought chapters should be aware. So they can discuss ways they can implement
this.

Dear Internet Society community,

On behalf of the Internet Society Board of Trustees, I would like to share with you the Internet Society’s 2030 Strategy<https://click.mail.isoc.org/?qs=01b75bc0369dae5949746798b642e9af9d438e3c7e3b1565233b3f7a545af163c0095f57832db267eb97481db6819b614ea7ba4cbaa5aaca3546c50c39fa71a5>.

The development of this strategy began last year with conversations among the Board of Trustees, Internet Society leadership, staff, and you—our global community of dedicated volunteers. During that consultation, it became clear that our ongoing strategy work should closely resemble our long-held vision: the Internet is for everyone. As a result, the 2030 Strategy is an evolution of our current strategy for building, promoting, and defending the Internet.

It is not, however, a simple restatement. The global impression of the Internet has gotten more negative over time, and while humanity's core urge to connect and build community has not changed, it has been tainted by fears, both valid and imagined. That has changed the set of global challenges we face and created a need to adjust our priorities. This strategy sets those out.

It does not change our steadfast commitment to focus on people, both the Internet’s users and those who are still excluded. Nor does it turn us away from the work of the past five years, in which the Internet Society connected new communities, countered bad law, advocated for the technology needed to support confidentiality, and showed the world the harms that occur when the Internet is withdrawn. Instead, it recognizes that we must do more in the face of those new challenges.

This strategy will, no doubt, continue to evolve as we approach the official start in January and as it plays out in the years beyond. In the meantime, please have a look and familiarize yourselves with our priorities over the next five years. I hope you see, as I do, a call to action in it. The Internet’s capacity to interconnect individuals and communities remains an important and powerful force for the common good, and we must do everything in our power to help ensure it continues to provide those benefits to humanity.

We are profoundly grateful for your unwavering support for our mission and your contributions to the 2030 Strategy. Thank you for all that you do every day to build and protect a thriving Internet for everyone.

For the Board,

Ted Hardie
Chair, Board of Trustees
Internet Society
