There's in fact work in progress to improve that case for giving to donors, so watch the web page. I should note, as well, that some countries have tax treaties with the US that allow donations to US charities to be treated as charitable donations in the home country (Canada is among those countries). We're obviously not in a position to give people tax advice, however.

Yes, that would help, but the truth is that we do not get much in the way of donations in the US either; and the US is the most charitably-inclined economy on the planet. So we're trying to get better at the comparatively easy task before we take on the hard one.
