I feel very honored to have been awarded by the Internet Society the John Postel Service award, for outstanding and sustained contributions in service to the Internet community, yesterday at the IETF meeting in London. The award highlighted the special role and importance of the network technology workshops for people from developing countries that I led and that ISOC supported during 1993-2001. In connection with those workshops, it is also important to recognize the essential role of the volunteers who made these workshops possible and who enabled us to train in Internet technology about 1500 participants from almost all developing countries. During that time, the Society's yearly INET conferences were at the center of knowledge about the global Internet, and the workshops were organized in conjunction with them, providing workshop participants the opportunity to not only learn about and practice using the technology but also to meet key Internet leaders and establish worldwide professional connections. ISOC's consistent motto has been, "The Internet is for everyone," and I feel very grateful that we had the opportunity to make a significant move toward that objective for a large and important part of our world.
