Webinar for ISOC Chapters:
World Map of Encryption Laws and Policies
Encryption is more important than ever. It helps secure our work from home, protects the integrity of critical public health information, and keeps our communications with friends and family confidential. But around the world, its legal situation varies. Some countries guarantee a general right to encryption; in others, it is severely restricted.
To help navigate this complicated landscape, Global Partners Digital<http://www.gp-digital.org> (GPD) has created this easy-to-use interactive world map<https://www.gp-digital.org/world-map-of-encryption/> of national encryption laws and policies. ISOC is partnering with GPD to further improve the map and support ISOC’s encryption strategy as well as the work of the Global Encryption Coalition.<https://www.globalencryption.org/>
Introducing the map
ISOC and GPD will offer an informative webinar about the map this Friday, 2 October, at 1300 UTC, giving you the opportunity to explore the map in more detail and ask questions of the researchers. The registration link for the webinar is https://isoc.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIsduqurD0jGdJkdebpHn-Qt22pZVhi38_j. The webinar will be recorded for those who cannot attend.
How you can help!
Laws and policies are ever-changing. To ensure the map remains a useful tool for the broader internet community, we’re asking all ISOC Chapters to help keep us keep it up-to-date (this is one of our calls to action during the chapter workshops). There are four easy steps to help:
1. Attend the webinar (or watch the recording online)
2. Check out the map<https://www.gp-digital.org/world-map-of-encryption/>
3. Review the current information
4. Submit updates/new information (via this form<https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/EncryptionMap> or via email to ruby at gp-digital.org<mailto:ruby at gp-digital.org>)
The map research team will review all updates submitted and update the relevant section(s) online. Your support will be incredibly valuable and make a meaningful contribution to maintaining an important community resource.
We look forward to seeing you on the webinar. Thank you!
