Dear Colleagues,
The ITU World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly<https://www.itu.int/en/ITU-T/wtsa20/Pages/default.aspx> (WTSA) is now postponed to the 23 February to 5 March 2021 in Hyderabad, India, “subject to the restoration of normal work and travel conditions”.
Here’s an update on what we're doing to prepare for the conference.
Matrix of proposals
We’ll track proposals to the WTSA and release a matrix. Some of the regional preparatory meetings will now happen in December, so we’re hoping to share the first version of the matrix in late November or early December. We’ll keep it updated up until the start of the WTSA.
New IP system
A proposal for a new IP system by Huawei would create a new body of work within the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) for the next study group period (2021-2024).
In April, we released a preliminary analysis of this proposal<https://www.internetsociety.org/resources/doc/2020/discussion-paper-an-analysis-of-the-new-ip-proposal-to-the-itu-t/>. We’ll continue to monitor it closely in the run-up to the WTSA.
Toolkit for engagement
Our staff will prepare a toolkit of resources for chapters and members for engaging their national delegations on our WTSA priorities.
Members of our team are also taking part in some of the regional and national preparatory processes and providing information to stakeholders and governments.
Discussion sessions
Before the event we’ll also be running sessions with chapters and organizational members to share information, compare notes and strengthen our collective advocacy.
We’re looking forward to working together in the run up to the event. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Best regards,
ISOC Team on WTSA-20
