[Chapter-delegates] The next AMS [was: Heads-up on some improvements to the Chapter Portal (AMS) - 30 July release]

Dear Christine,

thanks for your quick answer. Though the items completed and those in progress are important - frankly - it doesn't look like too much progress, given that July 30 is some weeks ago now.  Furthermore it is disappointing that all topics that are related to automation of members administration e.g. bulk entry of membership updates, formalized data for "Please Review Your New Chapter Membership Application" messages ... fell through the grate.

I'm afraid the data within AMS - aka Membernova - will stay as it is for quite some chapters (and the ISOC membership in general): incomplete, outdated and of very limited use. And frankly: having a working group that doesn't even meet twice in 3 months while dropping serious requirements without a comment is not overly promising.

So here my bet: (quite a few 1000$s later) by end of 2021 ISOC will proudly announce a brand-new Membership database system named Supernova-M - with an even shinier user interface, a lot of buttons, bells and whistles. Of course it will continue to ignore, that a database system that communicates - with those who provide and use the data - exclusively via point and click and a few interactive forms, is of only limited value and far from meeting the state of the art.

Anyhow, best regards,

Klaus

> There were two calls in March this year to which all Chapter leaders interested in discussing challenges they’re facing with our Membership and Chapter Portal (AMS/MemberNova) were invited. The result of these calls was a list of items that we then internally categorised into buckets to prioritise them by level of impact, but also by level of effort to make changes to any given functionality.
>
> Based on this, we then invited Chapter leaders interested in further supporting us as we work through that list to join a “AMS Chapter/SIG Leader Working Group”. This group is important to have as we want to ensure that the solutions identified are as useful as possible to you as Chapter leaders. Some of the items raised needed further input in terms of what exactly the ideal functioning would be, but also in terms of what the concrete situations are that are faced by a majority of our Chapters across the globe.

>>>
>>> This is a heads-up that you will see some changes to the Chapter Portal (AMS) as of tomorrow, 30 July, when our vendor is deploying a new release of the system.
>>>
>>> The changes will address some requests that we received from Chapters over time, and will also make some of the labels more self-explanatory.
>>>
>>> This is the first step in a series of adjustments that will be rolled-out over the next few months.
>>>
>>> Here a quick summary of where you’ll see the changes after 30 July:
>>>
>>> 1) Bulk selections of member records will now be possible, also if the list that is being viewed is spread over several pages
>>>
>>> 2) An improvement will be made to the ‘Select All’ checkbox. There will be a drop down you can select to either choose ‘Current page’ to select the current page of members or ‘Select all records’ to select all of the members on each page. The number of records selected will display.
>>>
>>> 3) Some labels on the subscription pages have new names, such as: The function “Extend” will now be called “Extend (Current Term)” and the function “Reactivate” will be called “Reactivate (Undo Cancellation)”.
>>>
>>> 4) Bulk actions will require additional ‘Heavy Confirmation’. The required action will have to be confirmed by the person requesting the bulk action to avoid accidental "bulk terminations" of members.
>>>
>>> 5) There will be a new "Page by Page” functionality when navigating lists. It will be much easier to navigate from one page to another. In the past, the only choices available were "Previous" and "Next".
>>>
>>> You will also see these adjustments reflected in the Chapter Officer User Guide that you can find in the Chapter Portal (AMS) under the Quicklinks.
>>>
>>> Please let us know if you have any questions to the points above.
>>>
>>> As you probably remember, we’ve also had a series of calls with those of you interested earlier this year to compile a list of Chapter Portal (AMS) challenges that we have then worked on over the last few months. We have a check-in call with those who were interested in being part of a “MemberNova working group" later this week. Please watch out for further announcements over the coming weeks and months as we continue to work through the list that was compiled with your help.
>>>
>>> Best,
