Thank you very much for reaching out with your questions. Below are responses to Judith and Nazar, Stine responded separately to Olivier.

We were told that the Fluxx system was totally accessible.  Is that true?

Fluxx is Committed to Accessibility and I am sharing with you their statement:

Fluxx is committed to the goal of an inclusive and accessible online experience for people living with disabilities, and in furtherance of this goal, Fluxx undergoes periodic accessibility audits to ensure conformance to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA, which is recognized and acknowledged as the international standard for web accessibility. We also communicate with advocacy groups, industry partners and vendors to identify areas that need improvement and work with accessibility and usability advisors to follow the guidelines where possible. We provide accessible features to users of our Grantee and Lite Dashboard experiences.
Accessibility Features in the Fluxx Application:

  *   Full Keyboard Access - For non-sighted and limited mobility users, all elements can be accessed using a keyboard.
  *   Alternative Content - To make it easy for site visitors with limited vision, alternative text is available to describe elements on the page.
  *   Improved Color Contrast - To make it easy for users with limited vision or color blindness to read, Fluxx follows WCAG 2.0 guidelines for color contrast ratios.

Has the Fluxx being tested with the users/grant recipients?

Yes, two members of the Chapter Officer community have been participating in the user acceptance testing (UAT) that has been ongoing since implementation began in December.  We identified the need to incorporate our grantee users into the testing process from the very beginning.  Likewise, a member of the ISOC Board who is also a member of the Chapter community took part in the vendor selection process earlier last year.  As is possible in such a short timeframe we have been as inclusive as possible to get as many different perspectives and use-cases into the system to test.

If for example you are in the middle of applying the grant and you get hit by a blackout, you would loose all infodata entered. Does Fluxx save infodata when for example your computer restarts?

Fluxx has save as you go functionality built in.  At any time you can save an application and/or grantee report you are working on without having to complete all mandatory fields.   Much like a document saved locally on your computer, in the system and in our training resources we encourage our users to save their work from time to time to be sure everything is retained as you go.  Fluxx has designed their webpage forms in this manner to provide consistent performance in lower bandwidth environments, something we believe is very important for our diverse user audience.

To answer any questions related to Beyond the Net Small, Large grants  and Fluxx, we are compiling a list of FAQs and will be organizing a series online sessions beginning in April. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

As for Chapter Admin Funding – this is still handled by ISOC side and therefore remains in MemberNova (AMS) for the time being. The application is currently going through the final stages of User Testing with internal staff (AMS colleagues and Community Engagement team) as well as Chapter Leader representatives.

You can refer back to our bi-weekly Chapter Updates for additional updates on the Chapter Admin Funding – but to briefly sum up here, 2020 Chapter Admin Funding will launch end of this month and be open for applications 1 April – 30 May.

In these trying times, we acknowledge that the past few weeks have been marked by stress and uncertainty. We stand together with you during this difficult time, and encourage you all to continue prioritizing your health and safety. To that end, virtual events, trainings and learning opportunities are encouraged whenever possible.

Despite the uncertainties we are facing, it is important that we keep moving forward.

In that spirit, we are thrilled to share that the Foundation will launch a new grants management system (GMS) later this month. Our GMS will be integral to effectively capturing the positive impact of the important work our grantees do around the world.

Our new system – called Fluxx – is built specifically to support the philanthropic community. Its simple, user- friendly interface is designed to make it easier to find, submit, process and track all grant-related information – benefitting all grantees, external reviewers, and the Foundation team as well.

Since early December our Foundation team – with support from ISOC staff members and members of the ISOC Community – has been working hard to launch this critical piece of our infrastructure.  Once launched, Fluxx will support all Foundation grant programmes:


  *   Beyond the Net Small
  *   Beyond the Net Large
  *   Strengthening Communities/Improving Lives and Livelihoods (SCILLS)
  *   Research
  *   Innovation
  *   Disaster Relief

Will I use Fluxx to submit my 2020 Beyond the Net Small and Large Grant applications?

Yes. Fluxx will be live and available for you to submit your applications. The Beyond the Net Small Grants will open for applications the week of April 6th, and the Beyond the Net Large Grants will open the week of April 13.   Please note that we will no longer have a "Medium" category.  Small Grants are available for up to USD $3,500 and Large grants are for up to USD $30,000.

Will there be any changes to the Beyond the Net Small and Large Grant programmes or deadlines due to COVID-19?

Yes. Given the exceptional situation created by the spread of COVID-19, the Foundation has made the following decisions:

  *   We will accept applications that propose Internet-based solutions to address community needs arising from COVID-19.
  *   Application deadlines have been extended. The Small Grant applications will open the week of 6 April and close on 26 June 2020, and decisions will be made on a rolling basis. The Large Grant applications will open the week of 13 April and close on 3 July 2020. Decisions on the Large Grants will be shared in two waves.

     *   The week of 6 July 2020
     *   The week of 3 August 2020

How will I access Fluxx? And when can I sign in?

 Fluxx will use single-sign on integration with MemberNova to authenticate you, our Chapter Officer users, as a Chapter Officer and authorize access to your Chapter’s Beyond the Net history in the new system. There will be a cutover period from MemberNova to Fluxx, for the Beyond the Net grants, and shortly thereafter we will announce on this mailing list when you have access to the system.

What will happen to the grant data currently in MemberNova?

We are migrating a subset of Chapters’ 2016-2019 Beyond the Net grants so that you will have a fuller picture of your Chapters’ recent grants in Fluxx. To make those grant records meaningful to you, we are also migrating over basic information about the primary contact of those grants, payments, and grantee reporting.

Copies of all migrated Beyond the Net data will remain in MemberNova for historical reference. However any action you may be required to take on an “active” Beyond the Net grant will now occur in Fluxx.

Will there be any training or other resources available to help us become familiar with Fluxx?

 Absolutely. Our priority is to make your experience in our system as user-friendly and intuitive as possible. To that end, we will have training materials available for you in English, French, and Spanish.  Additional training will be added in the coming weeks after the system is live.  These trainings will be available both in the Fluxx system and on the Internet Society Foundation's website under a tab we will add called "Resources."

We are also pleased to share that the Foundation has been selected to participate in beta testing Fluxx’s new multi-lingual functionality later this year. This functionality will provide an immersive experience in French and Spanish, in addition to English.  Until then we will provide PDFs of all forms and landing pages in English, French and Spanish.

Next Steps

Once the system goes live, we strongly encourage you to login and take advantage of the training and resources that will be available for you. We will share more information on how you can do this in the coming weeks.

As with any new system, we know that it will not be perfect right away. With your input, we will continue to refine and enhance it in the weeks after launch – to make it the best it can be.

Con ese espíritu, estamos encantados de compartir que la Fundación lanzará un nuevo sistema de gestión de subvenciones (GMS) a finales de este mes. Nuestro GMS será integral para capturar de manera efectiva el impacto positivo del importante trabajo que realizan nuestros beneficiarios en todo el mundo.

Nuestro nuevo sistema, llamado Fluxx, está diseñado específicamente para apoyar a la comunidad filantrópica.
