Subject: [Chapter-delegates] Webinar about encryption : Tuesday, December 15 at 5:00 p.m.
Dear friends of the Internet Society France,
I remind you that the last Internet Society France webinar of the year will take place on Tuesday, organized with the support of the Internet Society.
In a context of modernization of digital regulation and reform of the e-commerce directive at the European level, cybersecurity is sometimes balanced against fundamental rights. Encryption is at the heart of this debate. Its legal framework has been built in France around this search for a balance between public order and freedom.
Encryption is at the heart of tensions relating in particular to access to electronic evidence, especially in the context of the fight against terrorism, organized crime and, more broadly, cybercrime. In this context, a number of actors, including the Internet Society, have created the Global Encryption coalition to promote strong encryption.
The webinar aims to discuss, in France, the different approaches to encryption, in particular, this balance between strong security and confidentiality on the Internet. Speakers will address the legal regime of encryption, the fight against cyberthreats, the issue of introducing backdoors, as well as the role of encryption in the protection of human rights, from privacy to freedom of expression.
