I don't think it's so tough a problem as you suggest. ISOC historically has
felt free to openly disagree with U.S. government policy when we thought it
was wrong. (Take encryption policy for example.) We're aware that the
current U.S. government has advanced proposals that would undermine the
open internet, but this has not affected our commitment to an open
internet, even a little bit.
Regarding our colleagues and community members in Beirut and in Lebanon
generally--my heart goes out to all of you during this catastrophic moment,
and I look forward to exploring ways that ISOC can help you navigate
through this crisis.
