 Tim Berners-Lee
@timberners_lee
I'm very concerned about the sale of .org to a private company. If the
Public Interest Registry ends up not being required to act in the public
interest, it would be a travesty. We need an urgent explanation.

---------------------

Apologies for yet another PIR post. But ISOC is still waist deep in the Big
Muddy and too proud to listen to the best of the Internet and their own
conscience.

Andrew Sullivan and Gonzalo Camarillo are not greedy crooks, although the
web would give that impression. They are bedazzled by what they could do
with a billion dollars and the power it gives them. They want the deal to
go through, by whatever means necessary. 9 out of 10 comments around the
world think Andrew and Gonzalo are wrong. ISOC is worth saving.
--------------------
In addition,* Bob Hinden, our previous Board Chairman*, forwarded a link to
Professor Milton Mueller's note
https://www.internetgovernance.org/2019/11/25/what-to-do-about-org/
"calling upon ICANN to withhold its approval."
-------------------
9,514 have signed the petition at https://savedotorg.org/. I've read dozens
of articles from around the world. 9 out of ten clearly are not satisfied
with the explanations. Two of our own chapters have opposed the deal. The
Internet Society is being excoriated around the world. It will take years
to repair our reputation.
Among the signers are
The Electronic Frontier Foundation
Wikimedia
Internet Archive
Public Knowledge (The best and most respected public advocates in DC)
Free Software Foundation
Creative Commons
The Apache Software Foundation
and even Girl Scouts of America, who I admit have no expertise.
----------------------

Friday, Andrew says he will answer main questions. It will take several
hours of back and forth to get to the truth. It will more likely be a pr
stunt.

Good night.
