Dear Walid,

thanks a lot for the announcement and for the work behind it. I beg you to
extend recognition to the committee members and staff responsible.

I am particularly glad that Mike Godwin has been elected to the Board, and
heartened that he and Mieke will bring in a principled view and a will to
make ISOC stand strong in these turbulent times. Their clarity about their
roles will surely add to their intelligence and experience. Case someone
hasn't followed this, because it was the Advisory Board election, Mike is
more easily remembered for his "Godwin's Law" - but we should understand
that this happens because he was early with the pioneers on the impact of
the Internet in society. If I remember correctly, he was the lawyer who sat
with John Perry Barlow to write the Declaration of Independence of
Cyberspace in order to give it Constitutional gravitas, density, and
coherence. He continues to be a sprite and we'll do well to follow him and
make him welcome in the Chapters realm.
