Andrew,
As chair of ISOC-Bulgaria, I’d like to say “Welcome!”, and offer our support, if you need it. I’m sure that all the chapters will join in welcoming and offering support and help, and ideas. Relations between Reston and the chapters have improved in the past few years (kudos to Kathy and all staffers, who have done good things!), but we are facing more and more threats to the Internet nationally and regionally. It is up to ISOC and chapters, and chapter leaders to take the lead in dealing with them, and in some cases - confront them. We’ve done it in the past (ISOC-Bulgaria is about to celebrate 20 years since our own victory against censorship in the country), and we will have to do it again — in order to keep the Internet united, global, free and open.

Best of luck! You have great staff at ISOC, and you have great chapters and members around the world!

Dear Colleagues:

It is my first week here at the Internet Society and I'd like to share a few thoughts as I start my new position as President and CEO.

First, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the many kind words of congratulations and support that I have received since the announcement of my appointment. I am excited to take the helm and look forward to the challenges of this new role.

It is an honor to lead this organization, with its long legacy of accomplishments. But we cannot rest. We have reached a pivotal time for the Internet and for us. Our mission has never been more important.

I agree with the principles on which the Internet Society was founded more than 25 years ago. I believe in the power of our community. I rely on the open, trusted Internet, and the values that define it. Those values are what we at the Internet Society work to promote every day.

During these early days on the job, I will be taking time to meet people, learn more about the organization and engage with our community. At the same time, I will be working to make sure we carry out our 2018 Action Plan and finish the year on a high note as we prepare for 2019. I appreciate that Kathy Brown has agreed to be available for a period of time to ensure a seamless transition.

I look forward to hearing from you about the issues affecting us. You will find that I communicate openly and transparently and I’d like to encourage the same from you. I want to hear your thoughts and ideas -- I can be reached at sullivan at isoc.org<mailto:sullivan at isoc.org>.

By working together, we can ensure that the Internet keeps fulfilling its promise to enrich people’s lives. C'est ma première semaine ici chez Internet Society et j'aimerais vous faire partager quelques réflexions alors que je prends mes nouvelles fonctions de PDG.

Tout d'abord, je tiens à exprimer ma sincère gratitude pour les nombreuses paroles de félicitations et de soutien que j'ai reçues depuis l'annonce de ma nomination. Je suis ravi de prendre la barre et j'ai hâte de relever les défis que comporte ce nouveau rôle.

C’est un honneur pour moi de diriger cette organisation, avec son héritage de nombreuses réalisations. Mais nous ne pouvons pas nous reposer sur nos lauriers. Nous sommes parvenus à un moment charnière pour Internet comme pour nous. Notre mission n'a jamais été aussi importante.

Je suis d'accord avec les principes sur lesquels Internet Society a été fondée il y a plus de 25 ans. Je crois au pouvoir de notre communauté. Je compte sur l’Internet ouvert et fiable, ainsi que sur les valeurs qui le définissent. Ces valeurs sont ce que nous, chez Internet Society, travaillons à promouvoir chaque jour.

Au début de mon mandat, je prendrai le temps de rencontrer des personnes, d’en apprendre davantage sur l’organisation et d’interagir avec notre communauté. Parallèlement, je veillerai à mettre en œuvre notre Plan d’action 2018 et à ce que nous terminions l’année en beauté, tout en nous préparant pour 2019. Je suis heureux que Kathy Brown ait accepté de se rendre disponible pendant un certain temps pour assurer une transition fluide.

J'ai hâte d'avoir de vos nouvelles concernant les problèmes qui nous touchent. Vous constaterez que je communique ouvertement et de manière transparente et je voudrais vous encourager à en faire de même. En primer lugar, quiero expresar mi sincera gratitud por las numerosas palabras de felicitación y apoyo que he recibido desde el anuncio de mi nombramiento. Estoy entusiasmado de tomar el timón y espero con interés los desafíos que conlleva este nuevo cargo.

Es un honor dirigir esta organización con su largo legado de logros. Pero no podemos descansar. Hemos llegado a un momento clave para Internet como para nosotros. Nuestra misión nunca ha sido más importante.

Estoy de acuerdo con los principios en los que se fundó Internet Society hace más de 25 años. Creo en el poder de nuestra comunidad. Confío en el Internet abierto y confiable, y en los valores que lo definen. Estos valores son lo que en Internet Society trabajamos para promover todos los días.
