[Chapter-delegates] Opt-in & GDPR Update

Good Day Susannah and thank you for the note.
Just as an update, we moved to 40,485 over the last week. To answer your question, what we are doing here is taking a look at the data and seeing what it tells us. For example, someone mentioned if any of our chapter leaders hadn’t opted in, we want to know who and how many so we can make sure we reach out directly and either prompt them or discuss their challenges. We also want to have more information for all of you on the breakdown of what we see in the data. And yes, lastly, we need to understand the full impact of the data clean-up. I anticipate our review to be completed in the next two weeks.
The GDPR is vague on a time frame of when data needs to be deleted if someone has not responded to us. So, we are planning that we would do our actual data purges sometime in Q4, giving us enough to time to have full understanding, and validate all of the data pieces. This also coincides with the timing for implementing a new AMS (more news coming soon on that) so that our data migration goes smoothly as well.
Finally, what we are doing at ISOC is not emailing anyone who did not opt-in, nor are we messaging those who specifically opted-out. For now, we would ask that the chapters do the same.
Thank you,
Todd

As of this past Monday, we have over 40,100 people who have provided this consent (a tick over the 40% mark from when we started). We have had only 2,800 opt-out. As shared with you earlier, we have now stopped our emails, and will take a few weeks to review the data we have and tidy up some last aspects of our GDPR compliance. At that time, we will look at what to do next to enhance our members options. We do NOT intend to delete data of members yet.
- How should chapters deal with communicating to their members in the interim? Also, can you give us a timeline on how long it will take to clean up the database?
Should we now only send out communications to those who have opted in (i.e. those who have a check mark in the Personal Data Status column)?
Thanks,
Susannah
