Dear Colleagues,
The following application to start a Chapter in Jamaica has been received. It is being sent to the chapter delegates community for peer comment and review.
Please note that the Chapter is not yet formed and has not officially been recognized by the Internet Society.
The period allowed for comments is two weeks from today and the deadline is January 12th , 2019.

Proposed name of the Chapter
The name of the Chapter shall be The Internet Society Jamaica Chapter.
Community of Interest the Chapter will serve
The Chapter shall serve persons living and working in Jamaica.
Purpose and scope of the Chapter
Purpose of the Chapter
The purpose of the Chapter is to create an overall awareness of the use of the Internet to connect Jamaica to the world and to advocate for equal access. Additionally, without limiting the generality of the Chapter's purpose in the By-Laws, the Chapter shall also:
1. Support awareness by building initiatives and outreach efforts concerning Internet-related activities.
2. Facilitate forums for professional networking and knowledge sharing.
* Participate and lead initiatives for the expansion of community access and infrastructure development.
1. Encourage innovation, information sharing and empowerment.
2. Building consumer trust and confidence in the use of the Internet.
Scope of the Chapter
The Chapter will address problems in Internet development and education within the Jamaican community. The Chapter will also support the community and share the people's experiences and ideas in order to form Internet intelligence.

Jam Internet Bus Tour – As part of the Public Reference Forum work we will focus on visiting the people in communities that have limited access to Internet services.

Membership
To enhance engagement and communication with members, the following approaches shall be adopted:
1. Social Marketing to gather insight which can influence potential members.
2. Building good membership engagement plans.
* Provide feedback to members about policies and new procedures via email and face-to-face meetings.
1. Publish newsletters in order to ensure the developments of membership involvement.
2. Ensure that members are regularly informed of the local and national developments. Face to face briefings will be supported in writings and made available on the Website.
3. Continue to develop proactive media relationships and promote awareness of the events, forums, conferences and activities related thereto.
* Determine the most efficient and effective way to propel the decision-making process involved in the Internet Society governance.
* Increase membership participation in all communication processes including surveys, elections, group discussions, webinars, community activities, etcetera.
1. Identify and educate potential leaders who can implement proactive strategic solutions for the community.
2. Establish communication outlets for the free flow exchange of ideas and information amongst the members.
3. Encourage leaders to teach and lead by example.
* Inspire the youth to develop their observation and public speaking skills.
List of requirements
ISOC Jamaica shall be established as a Charitable and non-profit organization duly registered under the Laws of Jamaica. These are the following requirements:
1. Reserve the Society Name through Companies Office of Jamaica.
2. Register as a Non-profit Organisation through Companies Office of Jamaica. This will cost a fee of $24,500 (JMD) or $191 (USD).
* Apply for Charitable status at the Department of Co-operative and Friendly Societies.
Certificate approval at the Tax Administration Jamaica.
