Dear colleagues,
I think it is quite inappropriate for me to discuss the details of a
particular negotiation with one group on this list, so I'm not going
to do that. But I do wish to respond to something:

I disagree with this characterization. In my opinion, we went from a
list of a little over 100,000 people of uncertain commitment to an
admittedly smaller list of confirmed and clearly engaged members. My
view is that the second sitation is better, though obviously I would
prefer that we have a stronger membership with more people that are
all engaged. Part of the point of the organizational changes
announced this week, bringing chapter relations and member relations
together in a single organization, is all about ensuring that this
critical component of our shared Internet Society remains vital and
grows.
