For question #1: That's really a personal preference thing, some people say yes, some people say no, in the  end,  it is completely  up  to you  whether or not you upgrade.  I personally prefer custom ROMs as they fill the gap for finding  customization options, and in your case, would probably be  a good idea. Cataclysm  for  example is a  great  ROM which has features embedded in it that replicate some Gravity Box functions.

For  question #2:  XGELS will be hard, I don't think  there's  anything  like it on Lollipop currently,  but I haven't  looked into it  hard enough  to give you a very definite answer in that regard. Gravity Box  features can be  accomplished, like said above, in custom ROMs.

All-in-all, if you feel  like you  do want to  try updating,  look into custom ROMs on XDA. They wont be able to completely fill in  the missing Xposed  Framework functionality but can work for you in  the  long run if you're willing to  say  with it.
