- The IETF fellowship program has restrictions. As per the link you shared:
"Internet Society Fellowships to the IETF are for Internet Society
members from emerging or developing economies"
... which rules out this option for many chapters.
While remote participation 'hubs' are useful, one of the most valuable
things about attending such events in person is being able to network
with peers from all over the world and make connections with people
you'd otherwise never get to meet.
And while I wholeheartedly support the need for Fellowships/travel
support to the IEFT and other industry meetings for those from emerging
economies, it also needs to be recognized most chapters, wherever they
are located, are operating on shoestring budgets and are unable to fund
their own attendance to such events.
Thank you Olivier, for sharing this proposal with us. I think it's a
good initiative and am interested to hear others' feedback.
