C. Purpose and scope of Chapter
The Internet Society Namibia Chapter, is to serve as the most preferred, inclusive and multi – stakeholder internet advocacy umbrella body in the Republic of Namibia.
The organization aims to serve as a focal point for cooperative efforts to promote the internet as a positive tool to benefit all Namibians throughout the country, to unite different internet players in forums of discussion in Namibia as well as to create awareness in issues related to the development of Internet in the country.
The primary goals of the Namibian Chapter are;
- To add value to the Internet Ecosystem at its locality
- To assist in the Achievement of Universal Access to Internet in Namibia
- To advocate for a secure Cyber environment
- To promote ICT literacy i.e. computer use and awareness
- To promote digital literacy in the country
- To promote online protection for all
- To advocate for Local language content on the internet in Namibia
- To promote awareness for Advanced technology in the country
- To advocate for protection of citizens online against surveillance and online profiling
- To promote the development of Open Data
- To promote the Namibianisation (Promotion of Local content, Cultural Diversity & Usage) of the Internet
- To promote adoption of open development of standards, protocols and the technical infrastructure of the internet in Namibia
- To promote Techpreneurship in the country
- To advocate for web neutrality
- Promote free & secured Internet access for all

I. Additional information
We have already the undertaken the following
o PyCon Namibia Conference (ISOC Namibia Chapter formation awareness –February 2017
o IST- Africa Conference– May 2017 (We are granted a slot to provide ISOC awareness and how the Chapter will benefit the Namibian community
o Weekly meeting with the founding members, where members present on Internet related issues. This is mainly just to keep the members together while we are waiting for the chapter to get approved
So far, 3 members presented on the following topics:
· Dr. Ben Fuller – Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
· Mrs Ndeshi Ndilula – Internet Development in Namibia
· Mr Alphons - The Internet for empowering of minority and marginalized group
o Took part at Pycon Conference – creating ISOC Awareness amongst programmers – February 2017
o Meetings with key Institutions to raise awareness of ISOC upcoming presence in the country – February 2017
o Partnership invitation & Meetings about ISOC area of operation and future partnering – February, March & Ongoing
