For 20 years we have used Mailman for Board discussions, and some small
WGs. For the last 10, plus a wiki as a repository.
While we have a Chapter Slack, I'm just about the only one that uses it,
mainly as an RSS reader - a function it performs remarkably well. However a
secondary Slack for our NYC Mesh project is very lively, with about 20
channels. We did apply for, and get, the non-profit exemption - we are a
501(c)3.
For meetings we generally use my personal Zoom pro account. But may soon
get one for the Chapter. For the DSNC Chapter, where I also have been
runing Zoom calls, I have worked out a cheap and cheerful method to add
live captions.
With other Chapters and their members, as well as At-Large, the default
mode of daily discourse is Skype groups. This has been steady for a couple
of years. Skype chat also works well for reaching ISOC staff with momentary
queries. Yet to use the reported built in auto-translation tool.
Recently, many members have adopted Signal for personal communications. FB
messenger is also used.
Our website is a fairly static WordPress. News items/announcements are
posted to a separate WordPress, embedded in the main website via RSS,
tweeted. and manually forwarded to an 'Announce' mailman to the entire
Chapter. Anyone who unsubs from announcements is removed from Chapter
membership!
We have active an active facebook page, and twitter channel.
