Dear Colleagues,
The following application to start a Chapter in Guyana has been received (below) . It is being sent to the chapter delegates community for peer comment and review.
Please note that the Chapter is not yet formed and has not officially been recognized by the Internet Society.
The period allowed for comments is two weeks from today and the deadline is June 29th, 2017

Chapter Application Form

"Internet Society Guyana Chapter"
1. Community of Interest the Chapter will serve
Cooperative Republic of Guyana
1. Purpose and scope of Chapter
Connecting Guyana, working with others, and advocating for equal access to the Internet and strive to make Guyana a better place.
Scope of Chapter
* Carry out the work of its parent body the Internet Society (ISOC); the activities and involvement of the local chapter will be extended to the Guyana diaspora maintaining development and availability of associated technologies and applications to more effectively collaborate, cooperate, and innovate.
* Support ISOC to ensure the beneficial, open evolution of the global Internet;
* Serving the interest of Internet Society who has a global presence through a local presence in Guyana;
* Advance the professional development of ISOC members in Guyana.
* Create an awareness and facilitation of Information and Communication Technology professionals and organizations in Guyana;
* Support education in Guyana specifically and wherever the need exists.
* Provide reliable information and educational opportunities that include training workshops in Guyana;
* Encourage innovation and creativity with grants and awards received from ISOC to relevant initiatives and outreach efforts that address the humanitarian, educational, and societal contexts of online connectivity.
* Facilitate leadership programmes through ISOC that include the cultivation of Next Generation Leaders and Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Ambassadors.
* Organize events and opportunities that bring people together to share insights and opinions.
* Liaise with other chapters that serve the needs of the growing global Internet community
1. Outline of key priorities for the first year of Chapter
* Strengthen Internet Society Guyana Chapter membership and leadership
* Establish the ISOC Guyana Chapter Website
* Media training for members in collaboration with University of Guyana Centre for Communication Studies.
* Host Guyana's first Internet Governance Forum in 2018
* Collaborate with ICANN to hold a DNS & Entrepreneur training in 2018
* IPv6 Training in 2018
* Participate in ICT events held in Guyana in 2018.
* Establish the Membership, Finance, Executive and any other relevant committees.

1. Membership
* Communication with members will be done via telephone, e-mail, social media, networking, newsletters, webinars and video conference facilities.
* Recruiting of members will be done via the following ways:
* Just Ask and Social Media– members of the Internet Society Guyana Chapter will ask persons in their workplaces, etc if they are interested in becoming a member. Regularly update social media pages thereby keeping the internet public up-to-date about the activities.
* Engage through service – Because ISOC is internationally recognized, the Guyana Chapter will from time to time attend as well as host events. At these events we will be sure to have flyers, membership applications and brochures available for prospective members to learn more about Internet Society Guyana Chapter.
* Membership drive – decide on creative ways each year at a specified period to recruit members.
* Create a Campaign of "100 Reasons to be a Member of Internet Society Guyana Chapter"
* Select members to participate in ISOC Next General of Leaders programme, Ambassadorship to the IGF, IETF, ICANN, OECD Technology Foresight Forum
1. List of requirements
* Government Requirement
Register the organization as an Non-Governmental Organisation with the Registrar of Friendly Societies, Ministry of Social Protection and Deeds Registry, Ministry of Legal Affairs.
* Individual Membership Requirements
* Citizen of Co-operative Republic of Guyana (by birth or naturalization)
* Global member of Internet Society
* Guyanese citizen will not be restricted to living in Guyana only, a member of the ISOC Guyana Chapter can also be residing outside of Guyana.
