Hi,
We from Internet Society India, Delhi Chapter, support the application to form a new chapter in Mumbai.
As Satish has pointed out, it is important to have a chapter in the western part of India and we are glad to see a request from Mumbai.
We will be happy to support the new chapter whenever required.

Dear colleagues,
We at ISOC India Trivandrum are aware of this initiative and support it.
Mumbai is an important city and is considered as the commercial capital of India. The Western Region of India where Mumbai is located has a population of about 173 million, and has no ISOC Chapter. Therefore, it is important that ISOC forms a Chapter in Mumbai.
We have also been supporting Prateek's group in making their application. We are happy to note that with support from Naveed, their application has reached the current stage, and appears to have fulfilled the expected requirements.
Also, as Joel points out, it is important to obtain local registration in order to be able to carry out activities (esp. financial transactions). This can be spun off as an independent process with its own time-line.
In summary, ISOC-TRV supports this application, and, together with other ISOC Chapters in the region, will be happy to provide the new Chapter with any support as required.
With kind regards,
satish

Hello
Thanks Naveed for this post! I see the application as befitting the status they so seek, however I have two recommendations to make:
1. That the Team lead by Prateek should go ahead and seek registration as a society as soon as possible without having to wait for a year because it usually a lengthy process that has its milestones. So under Bullet G. Requirements, start right away.
2. We would be keen to know whether the founders have been affiliated to another chapter before (ISOC Chennai or so), as that is usually the springboard.
Best regards,

Currently, some of our members work for the following organizations and have been permitted by their employers to contribute their time for activities of ISOC Mumbai: -
· Heterotopia Private Limited
· JP Morgan Services India Private Limited
· Siemens India
· IDFC Bank
· Accenture Services Private Limited
· Udhe India Private Limited

· Dr Antonio Da Silva Technical High School and Junior College
· Kendriya Vidyalaya School, IIT Bombay
· WeChange, an NGO
· Team Vision, an NGO
· Indian Railways, Government of India
· Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
Once the chapter is incorporated and successfully operates for a year, we will solicit support and official representation from these organizations in ISOC Mumbai Chapter. Additionally, some of our members have their own independent practice as lawyers, social activists, chartered accountants and visual artists. To solicit interest among younger generation and train future leader of internet, our team includes students as well.
F. Membership
As ISOC Mumbai represents interest of diverse stakeholders within Mumbai and as each of these representatives has a track record of outreach within his domain, we will be able to attract new talent to engage with activities of ISOC Mumbai. Specifically, we will be approaching our workplaces as well as alma mater to promote ISOC activities.
Majority of our members are young (i.e. below the age group of 30) and we will work with older ISOC Mumbai members and collaborate with other ISOCs (like ISOC Trivandrum, ISOC Delhi etc.) to come up with means to nurture the next generation of leaders. The primary means of engaging with members and would-be members will be email-based communications (including newsletters) and private social media groups. Periodic face-to-face meetings and online meetings will supplement email-based communications.
G. List of requirements
Once we are incorporated, operational for a year and willing to raise funds, then we plan to register ourselves as a society under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.
