Hi Edwan,

Thanks for sharing this update. This is a situation we are following closely
and that should be of great concern to any Internet user. Unfortunately it's
not the first shutdown in the region, and likely not the last one.

I would like to draw your attention to this statement issued today by the
Internet Society, as we take a principle position on the issue of Internet
shutdowns:

https://www.internetsociety.org/lets-keep-internet-everyone

We are concerned by the increasing number of shutdowns around the world,
often used in the context of elections, demonstrations or other tense social
situations. We generally do not believe that cutting off all communications
offers an effective and sustainable solution. Quite the contrary, shutdowns
have a wide-range of negative effects on citizens, national and regional
economies, the Internet's stability and, ultimately, the country itself.

We understand these are difficult issues with unique local contexts. ISOC
Chapters therefore play a key role to shed light on these situations and
helping us respond in the best way possible.

We'll continue to monitor the situation and will stay in contact with the
Cameroon Chapter to identify useful approaches.

Nico

Good evening Fellow ISOC Delegates,

I bring you sad news about the state of internet access in my home country
Cameroon.

I have sobbed uncontrollably for weeks as the govt of my country tortures
and mimes her citizens and recently has cut off the ability to send
financial support to our families through western union and has now cut off
the internet.

Please if you can read the articles below.
