Not commenting on the course Glenn, but just a few observations on the start
of the article which mentions Poly Nazareno former (until end of 2015) CEO of
PLDT (Smart Communiciations is the mobile subsidiary of PLDT) ...
There are motherhood statements (e.g. PR) and there's reality. Clearly
reliable (and offordable) connectivity is crucial for Internet-enabled
applications. If the connectivity is so bad that even Uber and Grab don't always
work reliably, that puts a damper on adoption of cloud apps and especially
online financial transactions.
In the case of Smart's money transfer service (dominated by Western Union
here in the Philippines), i'd heard that internal coordination amongst the PLDT
divisions wasn't exactly friction-free, thus the need to move physical cash
around using motorbike couriers. Anecdotal, but a practice that would clearly be
at odds with the very concept of e-money.
