Subject: Mapping gender and technology

Dear all,

The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) in collaboration with International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is mapping gender dimensions in past, ongoing and future research work concerning ICTs, including less formal research initiatives such as analytical articles or reports. We will really appreciate if you can fill the survey and/or distribute it among your networks.

More attention is now being given to ensure that gender dimensions or analysis is integrated into research, particularly when trying to understand inclusion and variable access for women and gender non-conforming people, and their ability to use information and communication technologies (ICTs) to improve their livelihoods, quality of life and rights. Yet there are many challenges in integrating gender dimensions comprehensively and effectively in programmatic work, especially by organisations that focus primarily on Internet rights and/or ICTs for development (ICT4D).

With aims to improve gender-related outcomes, to strengthen gender analysis and inclusion in research projects, and to bolster the field of gender and ICTs with the development of a gender-focused network, this mapping exercise will help provide an overview of key actors and current trends relating to gender, and will help to identify the main gaps in current initiatives.

It will take about 15-20 minutes of your time to fill out this survey with details of your work, projects you find inspiring and exceptional, problems or issues you have faced. Your responses can be anonymous, and your privacy will be respected.

Thank you,

The APC team
