Hi Leah,

Thank you for your input. As to your question, I’m afraid I’m not the right person to answer to it. This is an initiative by the Netherlands chapter so it is not for me to state goals and objectives for it. However, I want to say that this is in my opinion a very good idea and would like it to gather enough momentum to go forward. Other than that I’ll leave the commenting to Alexander.

Best,

Tommi

Hello Tommi:

This is a great idea/proposal, I see great benefits in this. Our Chapter relates to all the issues you mentioned and the slides provide a great summary.

Question: Our website was seriously broken until last year when I scrapped for donation time and skills and eventually the ISOC small grant fund to create a new website that is now operational, http://www.sfbayisoc.org. The experience was extremely resource intensive in all ways. I cannot see us going through this exercise again anytime soon but we will more or else focus on maintenance and content update.

Now to the question: Will the project/tools that will be discussed be interoperable with current Chapter websites and build on the sites instead of clean starts? Is the goal to have all Chapters standardize their websites to the results of the project?

Thanks.

Dear all,

As an ISOC chapter, our online presence is expected to conform to best practices and lead by example. Properly adhere to modern standards like IPv6, DNSSEC, TLS, protect the privacy of those interested in their work, and offer inclusive, fully accessible web content for screens of all sizes, these are just a few examples.

Building and maintaining such an infrastructure however, is knowledge intensive and also work that has to compete for scarce time with actual policy activities, organisation building and awareness raising within and around chapters.

Go ahead and check your chapters website at<https://en.internet.nl>https://en.internet.nl . Do you recognize this friction between what we preach and what we practice? Can we change this? Yes! The vast majority of chapters has the same needs, and the internet as an infrastructure is at our feet - so why not collaborate and create open source tools and shared facilities that live up to our expectations and of society around us.

ISOC-NL, together with ISOC-NYC wants to start a project that results in just such a number of tools, recommendations and shared support facility, to be used by ISOC chapters in whatever way they see fit.

As a first step we kindly invite you to fill out our survey<https://isoc.nl/survey> (<https://isoc.nl/survey>https://isoc.nl/survey), that explores your chapter needs through a number of short user stories, and also gives you the opportunity to participate actively in the project.

The results of the survey will help us put together a project description which we will share with you, and which we will use to apply for the necessary financial support at ISOC.org.

Kind regards,

On behalf of Internet Society Netherlands,

Alexander Blom and Michiel Leenaars
