David,
this looks like a good opportunity for collaboration with ISOC staff,
including Drew Dvorshak and his office which is in contact with the donors
and orrganizational members of the Internet Society. I recognize a couple
of these companies as such members, and others could be approached for a
broader collaboration which would have better chances of success than a
single chapter's single project looking for donations/discounts in an
eminently operational area.
This is the kind of thing we in ISOC Mexico often ask for: a more-organic
integration of activities between chapters and staff. When we manage to get
it, it works wonders. Plus: in the US you have a better chance than we
outside do, since the companies based in the US can actually make donations
and substantial negotitations, where as their branches in our (especially
developing) countries are mostly sales offices and are not empowered to do
anything but sales, regulatory interference, and PR.
Also note I have un-copied all other lists you mailed to and left only the
ISOC Chapters list; plus brought in Drew and Joyce without warning, for
which I hope both will forgive me.
