Last year ISOC held a major event in New Zealand and "forgot" to invite the president or CEO from Internet Australia (ISOC-AU) - a mere 3 hours away by plane. To her credit, Kathy Brown acknowledged the mistake when she heard about it much later.

It appears that at present the culture of communication has been lost by some parts of the ISOC structure. It is indeed embarrassing for a local chapter to learn about an event ISOC HQ is organising, in the way you have shared with us. It is even more embarrassing when participants get in touch with the local chapter to ask questions and the local chapter knows nothing about the event.

This is indeed a great initiative in raising awareness, capacity building and, overall, carrying forward ISOC's mission in Bangladesh.

However, since there have been no prior communication from ISOC (global) with the chapter about this event we could not respond to our members query about the chapter's role in this event. As such, we felt bit uncomfortable. Our chapter is fairly new (since 2011) and we are yet to learn how ISOC (global) works with chapter in organizing local events. Is it usual that the local chapter is not informed before doing a local event with another local entity? we thought it could have been a great way to strengthen a very active chapter like ours if we were given the opportunity to work in collaboration or even mentioned!.
