Dear Richard,
Well done and as being the chapter of one of the most problematic countries
when it comes to content blocking, we of course fully support this
statement. We have organized many events, drafted and co-drafted many
statements yet things got worse and worse. By now we have a lot of bad
practice cases and became accustomed to find ways to fight against
censorship or at least discuss it on a multistakeholder level without ending
up in jail...
Ironically enough, the latest blocking in Turkey, also included in the
statement, which was the widest and the worst so far, happened during the
INET conference we co-organized in Ankara, moments before the panel on
censorship.
Online free speech is certainly a fundamental right to be treated with
utmost respect on a global level and as ISOC-TR, we are always willing to
cooperate with other chapters.
Best Regards,
Ceren

Subject: [Chapter-delegates] ISOC-CH statement on blocking
Dear colleagues,
As previously mentioned, laws that could enable blocking of certain web
sites are currently being discussed in the Swiss parliament. Further, there
appear to be more and more instances around the world of illegal or
unjustified blocking of web sites, in particular to stifle political
discourse.
Consequently, ISOC-CH has decided to publish a statement on the matter, see:
https://www.isoc.ch/archives/2430
ISOC-CH would like to invite other chapters to endorse or support this
statement, or to adopt similar statements of their own.
Best,
Richard
