political protests*

Hello FASTAfrica,

Ethiopia is experiencing a targeted Internet shutdown, a government
response to protests sweeping across the country. This is the third
shutdown the Eastern Africa country has experienced in the last two months.
Protestors have been met with brutal police force with reports indicating
dozens have been killed, hundreds of protestors injured and thousands
arrested in less than 6 hours.

This is a request to you to:

   1. Seek to know more of what is happening in Ethiopia. You can check
   #OromoProtests <https://twitter.com/search?q=#OromoProtests&src=tyah>,
   #AmharaProtests <https://twitter.com/search?q=#AmharaProtests&src=typd>,
   #EthiopiaProtests <https://twitter.com/hashtag/EthiopiaProtests?src=hash>
    online.
   2. Amplify the message against #Internetshutdowns
   3. Direct Ethiopians on VPNs or services they can use to get back online
   as soon as possible.
   4. Put pressure on Ethiopian government to switch back connection to
social media and allow peaceful protests for the citizens.
   5. As the seat of the African Union, Ethiopia ought to be on the
frontline to uphold the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights which
provides for the right to receive information and free expression and that
every individual has the right to liberty and to the security of his
   person.

 With regards.
