Bob,

and thanks for joining the discussion. I have now read, listened to and
watched what you actually said. And given it a few hours.

I do hope that the Chapters Advisory Council can improve the interaction
between ISOC chapters and the rest of ISOC. It also has to work in such a
way that it does not become a gateway to keep Chapters in a silo all alone.

Regarding engagement in discussions: few things discourage productive
discussion like the absence of someone to talk with, in the sense of
someone enabled to act upon the matters discussed. A healthy participation
by some Trustees in discussions with Chapters and members would enormously
increase the value of the discussions, induce new participants, and
instruct everyone on new developments and insights.

The structured tools (Connect) have even less participants than email
discussions. The workshops with Chapters have been mostly oriented to how
to run a Chapter. In the Latin American and Caribbean region we have
started Policy Briefing sessions with the best of ICANN staff for each
subject - thanks to ISOC HQ for listening! Our members and our local
intervention have been greatly enhanced, and we are only starting.

Policy is the crux. Ways to make it better, more widely shared, more owned,
more cooperatively built, more ready for influence and impact, is what will
make the international, the membership ISOC stronger - and thus a stronger
part of the IETF-ISOC, the organizational-members-ISOC, i.e. a one-ISOC.

Jason has written somethign akin to the effect that we Chapters and members
should build our own, essentially. If the Board thinks that is the way, I
see we already have a proposal, but think that we better still find a way
to do ISOC all of us together.

Yours,

Alejandro Pisanty
