[Chapter-delegates] ISOC - CL : Update on our identity work

Regarding the dichotomy between community activists and academia, aside from
having academics within the chapter, here where academic thinking and research
on Internet matters is new and thus less fixed or tracked (more flexible), we
(tech advocates) find that we can assist and therefore shape the thinking and
research. I suppose the efficacy of this depends on the number and nature of the
interactions and engagements. (e.g. ISOC-PH was invited to but unable to attend
a recent meeting of our National Academy of Science and Technology on Internet
infra, so instead we sent them a short 5 page letter on the topic.)
We've also had fairly good coordination and assistance from ISOC global,
regional, as well as other I* orgs such as APNIC for (with and through its
chapters) local engagements here. We hope to improve that with practice. At the
moment, my "top-down" complaint would be with new platforms such as this one -
Connect (much more constrained bulletin board-like functionality than even old
email lists) and ISOC Learn (user credential / authentication issues, etc.)

I spent some time talking to some members from our Chapters to see how a bolder identity for the Internet Society would help then in their work. Find out what they said! <http://internetsociety.org/identity/blog/emotional-intuitive-and-really-important> <http://internetsociety.org/identity/blog/emotional-intuitive-and-really-important> What would your answer be?
