[Chapter-delegates] ISOC Delegates meeting at AFRINIC 23 - Meeting report

Dear all,

please find below a report of the ISOC chapter member meeting during
AFRINIC 23 in Pointe Noire.

The meeting has start by a quick tour of attendant. Many chapters were
represented (Benin, Chad, Congo, DRC, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal,
Tanzania, Togo) and we also had some non-ISOC attendant. Of course
invitation was given to join the ISOC family.

The purpose of the meeting was to get an opportunity to meet and share.
Many points were discussed among those:

   - Chapter AC: A quick reminder of the Chapter AC goal was given.
   Fortunately we had among us some of the ACs. Chapters not yet having an AC
   have been encourage doing so as soon as possible.


   - Experience sharing: The Chad chapter share experience on how they have
   been able to make the chapter more active. And also build trust between
   ISOC Chad chapter and the Chadian government agency. For the record the
   Chadian chapter was designated as this year most active African chapter.


   - Funding: We review the financial support opportunity available through
   ISOC (Web site maintenance, Beyond The Net, etc). Great opportunity for
   some to find there more opportunity to boost their activity. Reminder was
   given that it just a way for ISOC to help and we as Chapters need to find a
   way to make our activities sustainable in the long term.


   - Collaboration: Collaboration opportunity has been discuss. We learn
   about the training collaboration between Ghana and Chad. Some discussions
   started and are still ongoing.


   - Availability: We can count on each other and any chapter that need
   help should not hesitate to ask for it through mailing list. Some Chapter
   delegates commit to help with specific needs (event preparation, budgeting,
   partnering, etc). Reminder was given to attendant that the African Bureau
   of ISOC is always available to support Chapters.

La réunion a débuté par un tour des participants. Plusieurs chapitres
représenté (Benin, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, RDC, Sénégal, Tanzanie,
Tchad, Togo) et quelques participants non membres de ISOC. Bien sure ils
ont été invités à rejoindre la grande famille qu’est ISOC.

L’objectif de la réunion était d’avoir l’opportunité de se rencontrer et
d’échanger. Plusieurs points furent discutés parmi lesquelles :

   - Chapter AC : Un rapide rappel a été fait de l’objectif des Chapter AC.
   Heureusement nous avions quelques AC parmi nous. Les chapitres n’ayant pas
   encore nominé leur AC ont été encouragé à le faire dès que possible.
   - Partage d’expérience : Le chapitre du Tchad a présenté comment ils ont
   réussi à rendre le chapitre plus actif. Ainsi que crée une relation de
   confiance entre  le Chapitre du Tchad et les agences gouvernementales
   tchadiennes. Pour rappel, le chapitre du Tchad a été désigné chapitre le
   plus actif d’Afrique.
   - Financement : Nous avons passé en revu les différentes possibilité de
   soutien financier offertes par ISOC (maintenance de site web, Beyond the
   Net, etc). Bonne opportunité pour certain de voir comment booster leurs
   activités. Rappel a été fait que cela est un moyen pour ISOC d’aider et
   c’est à nous chapitres de rendre nos activités pérennes sur le long terme.
   - Collaboration : Nous avons discuté des opportunités de collaboration.
   Nous avons appris entre autre la collaboration en le Ghana et le Tchad en
   matière de formation. Certaines discussions ont débuté et vont assurément
   continuer.
   - Disponibilité : Nous devons pouvoir compter les uns sur les autres et
   un chapitre ayant besoin d’aide ne doit pas hésiter à le faire au travers
   des listes de diffusion. Certains délégués de chapitre ont fait part de
   leur disponibilité à aider. Rappel a été  fait sur la disponibilité du
   bureau Afrique de ISOC  à soutenir les chapitres.
