Thank your for pointing to this truly excellent article. I'm taking the liberty of cross-posting to the Internet governance list, because I do agree that this is a clear and compelling explanation, which corresponds exactly to my thinking.
I would just add one point. Regarding monopoly pricing, the article says "Ultimately, the price and quantity he sets will be determined by marginal cost/revenue curves, the details of which go beyond the scope of this post, ...".
In a monopoly situation, the monopolist optimizes profits by pricing at the marginal benefit to the consumer, which is captured by the old saying "what the market will bear": if you price too high, you lose too many customers, if you price too low, you forgo too much profit.
In contrast, in a competitive market, prices are set at marginal costs.
