Hi Siva
I'd like to encourage everyone to be involved in some way! Even just taking
an interest in the process assists, but especially by nominating
candidates, or being willing to serve on one of the committees, if not the
board itself.

If I may answer the question implicit in your comment, there is a clear set
of criteria that the Nominations Committee (nomcom) uses to assess
candidates, and none of them are how likely someone is to be elected.

When the call for nominations for board positions goes up,
candidates/nominators are asked to provide statements covering both the
nominee's experience, fit with the criteria, and their vision for the
society and the Internet. What is submitted is extremely important. This is
used to shortlist candidates and then that shortlist is interviewed by the
nomcom.

The nomcom then compiles a final slate (usually only 2-4 per available
seat) of candidates based on that process for consideration by the
membership. This year there is only one Chapters seat available.

The quality of candidates is usually very high. Some years there are a lot
of candidates, and REALLY good candidates don't make it onto the slate
because of EXCEPTIONALLY good candidates.

Honestly, I am really impressed by the people that put their hands up. Some
are more well known than others, but that isn't the basis for final
selection.

I'd just like to encourage anyone that feels they have missed out that they
should reconsider applying, as it might just be that the competition was
really fierce that year.

I was nominated twice before I was elected.

best regards

Narelle
