Folks
A respected and usually well-informed community elder wrote me offlist
"I interpret Fadi's comments as relatively consistent with what he is
saying within ICANN, and I do not believe that ICANN has significant
security ambitions that go beyond ensuring the security, stability and
resilience of the Internet's set of addressing identifiers -- which is
specified in our bylaws.
"
Which I hope is accurate and that Fadi is not looking to expand the work
of ICANN. I'll be glad to discover I made a mistake and overstated the
issue. i
Many datapoints suggest to me otherwise, particularly the top down
approach he led in cooperation with WEF, the Billionaire Boys club. It
makes no sense to bring in to Governance more megabillion dollar companies.
Kathy Brown had strong words on the top-down nature of WEF/ICANN a month
ago which if anything were understated.
Tim Berners-Lee just warned “Suddenly the power to abuse the open
internet has become so tempting both for government and big companies.”

Also, of course I meant "I hope Fadi is *not* even close to doing what his
words suggest. " Leaving out the "'not" was very careless.
