Hi
Kudo's to Vanuatu. We need to document best practices to share what is
happening in policy and followup in actions ie. Capacity. In Ontario we
have the Ontario Disability Act and local councils have Accessibility
Committees but the proactive measures beyond physical barriers ie.
stairs and doors are poorly documented. In fact, the hotel for ICANN
in LA had two conference rooms on the main floor that had four steps
leading to the room, no bypass, elevator etc. This is a new building
and ADA compliant. Someone ain't doing their homework.
I am involved with IEEE SIGHT which has over 50 chapters and I am the
chair of the Toronto chapter, we are working with local groups focused on
persons with disabilities and looking at OPEN HARDWARE solutions to
making their lives more inclusive. Many of the chapters especially in
India are doing the same.
