Mark Perkins does a remarkable job of posting Internet policy related items
to our Linked-in group.
Today he came up with this one:
IFLA, along with the Association for Progressive Communications
(APC<http://www.apc.org/>)
and the Technology and Social Change Group (TASCHA <http://tascha.uw.edu/>)
at the University of Washington have prepared a briefing paper “Public
access: Supporting digital inclusion for all – Maximising the impact of
information and communication technologies (ICTs) for inclusive social and
economic development”. The paper was produced for the Commission on Science
and Technology for Development (CSTD <http://unctad.org/en/Pages/cstd.aspx>),
Seventeenth Session which IFLA attended between 2-16 May 2014 in Geneva.
The report (which is almost an infographic) can be found at
http://www.ifla.org/node/8626 and is also available in French and Spanish.
I believe this is an important issue, and the Internet Society should lend
its support, both vocal and technical, to promoting public access to the
Internet, especially in underserved communities. The report provides useful
data points.
