Hi,

Although I don't weigh in often because there are already such useful exchanges, maybe I can give some additional helpful perspective here. As we know, the Internet Society is a community organized around prinicples. This community, which certainly includes chapters, also includes organizations and individuals that choose to become members. One of the services we, the ISOC community, provide as a trusted voice is a platform for expression of views and exchange of information. So long as sponsors understand and agree to that and to our mission, then their support for what we all seek to accomplish for and by the Internet might even be encouraged as a means for adding further strength to our collective efforts.

Personally, I agree with you, but some members of ISOC-CH seem to be more reserved, at this stage.  As I said, we are still discussing the matter.

My point regarding the organizational members of ISOC is that they are very broad and differentiated.

I am not sure I follow you, Richard.
What conflict of interest? Publish on your site who is your sponsor for that particular project, and that in most cases should be enough.
After all, if you or the sponsor don't have any interest in the matter your project covers, then the sponsor is wasting their money, no? I don't say there should be a conflict of interest.
Also, I am not sure what is the relation with the organizational members of ISOC?

Yes. I agree. Could you shre with us some the engagements you have carried out or planning to do so. Also, how you are engaging the media?
All these cannot be done without financial resources, and the annual grant of 2000 USD is not adequate for this,
My suggestion, (not as a trustee, but based on my experience elsewhere) is to first spend the USD 2000, and then discuss with Christine/Anne about your additional requirements. Often, some funds may be available somewhere.
bearing in mind the other equally important events like the annual IGFs.
The IGF ambassadors program is separate from chapter funding. Not sure about its status in 2014.

If chapters cannot get or identify other financial resources, increasing visibility and impact in local scenarios will take a little longer, especially for young chapters. And this is a specific area the ISOC BoT, and the Chapter Advisory need to look into.
To develop your chapter, you need to get other funding. Since the ISoc name is well known, it is often not difficult to get funding, both from local companies and rom the local offices of places like Google, Cisco and Microsoft. Please let me know what assistance you need in this regard.
